Statement of the Problem of the Thesis

Statement of the Problem of the Thesis

Any educational, student or scientific work should be based on a specific problem that needs to be studied and solved. The statement of the problem actually emphasizes the relevance of the chosen topic, outlines the purpose of the study, and emphasizes the practical significance. Moreover, the problem statement is one of the main elements of the introductory part of any project: term paper, thesis, WRC, dissertation, scientific article, etc. If it is absent, the material will be immediately disqualified and sent for revision.

So, in order to formulate the problem of the thesis, the author needs to study a lot of literature, form the main part of the project, which will consider early and current theories, identify their advantages and disadvantages, emphasize the need to improve the mechanism or situation, etc.

Thus, in order to formulate a problem, the researcher first needs to thoroughly understand the current situation, study many sources of information within the framework of the chosen topic, compare data and identify contradictions. The problem of the thesis is based precisely on the revealed contradictions. It appears when comparing old and new concepts, rules. In fact, the research problem is a gap that needs to be filled.

Research problem and relevance

At the beginning of each study (introductory part), the author proves the relevance of the chosen topic, and then defines the issues. It is important that the problem emphasizes the relevance of the thesis. The needs to focus on the fact that without solving the issue, the topic cannot be fully disclosed, implemented. Sometimes a problem can be solved in a scientific environment, but not implemented in practice, so the author has to develop a plan for its implementation in life.

Problem and research strategy

A competent statement of the problem of the thesis predetermines the research strategy. Setting a specific benchmark, the author immediately plans: how to solve the problem in practice, what actions need to be taken, calculates the potential effect and compares it with the results of testing, what results or effects (positive and side effects) are formed in the course of solving the problem, etc. When posing a problem, the author should clearly distinguish between known and proven facts from hypotheses, determine what is known and what is not.

Problem Assessment

The author will not only have to determine the problem of the graduation project, but also find ways to solve it. To do this, will have to find all possible information on the topic, identify common ways to solve the problem, methods and techniques, analyze similar situations, solution methods, etc.

Problem and subject of research

The formulation of the problem of the thesis is directly reflected in the subject. In this criterion, the boundaries of the study should be outlined, what will be considered, and therefore, the methodology and mechanism for solving the question posed should be predetermined.

Do not choose complex and intricate, ornate topics. It is extremely difficult to identify the problem in them. The easiest and best way to formulate a problem is as a question. Of course, such techniques are far from always welcomed by universities, but they can form the basis. The author should pose a specific question and find an answer to it, and then transform it into a competent piece of research material.
